The Story Behind This Coffee
Keto Tapasi Progress Association was founded in 2008 and represents approximately 375 smallholder coffee growers across 18 communities in Papua New Guinea's Eastern Highlands.
Despite differences in culture and language, these producers work together to improve coffee quality, processing infrastructure, and market access. The association has previously maintained Fair Trade and Organic certifications and has invested premiums into depulpers, warehouse space, and transportation improvements.
Coffee is grown in the cool mountain valleys and cloud forests of the Eastern Highlands, where abundant rainfall, shade-grown conditions, and high elevations contribute to slow cherry maturation and exceptional flavor development.
Producers typically depulp and ferment coffee on their own coffee gardens before delivering parchment coffee to the central mill in Goroka for drying and preparation for export.
