Two Knuckleheads, One Mission

How It Started

It sounds like the setup to a joke:

A pastor and a tile maker walk into a coffee shop to talk about... coffee.

That's exactly how Spearfish Coffee Roasters was born.

Tristan, a pastor who spent years experimenting with home coffee roasting, and Armen, a master tile maker and owner of ARTO Tile, met over a cup of coffee and quickly discovered they shared two passions: people and great coffee.

The more we talked, the more we realized something was missing in today's coffee world.

The Wake-Up Call

We were tired of searching for coffee that was actually fresh, genuinely organic, and fairly traded.

And honestly?

We were tired of the 12-ounce bag.

Somewhere along the way, a pound of coffee quietly became 12 ounces, then sometimes even less. Prices went up, bags got smaller, and customers were left paying more for less.

We believed there had to be a better way.

So over a couple cups of coffee, we made a simple commitment:

If we were going to start a coffee company, we were going to do it differently.
